SFPUC Regional Watersheds

BAY AREA, CA

< PROJECTS

The SFPUC Alameda and Peninsula Watersheds consist of a combined 53,000 acres of diverse and unique habitats ranging from oak woodlands and coniferous forests, to serpentine grasslands, to a variety of uses including grazing, plant nurseries, and quarry operations. Several utility companies have easements for the routing of public utilities such as gas pipelines, electrical transmission lines, and water aqueducts. A portion of the lands are also leased by the East Bay Regional Park District as part of the Sunol-Ohlone Regional Wilderness.  These lands are carefully managed to protect the quality of the water in the reservoirs, an abundance of native plant and animal life, as well as productive uses.

Lotus, through partnerships with Avila and RMC/Woodard & Curran, has been working on multiple task orders to support the SFPUC’s various activities in these watersheds.  Work has ranged from developing an asset inventory and condition assessment of the infrastructure throughout the watersheds, including bridges, roads, restoration elements, and ranching infrastructure, to the establishment of ArcGIS online geodatabases to efficiently track and manage these remote features.   Additionally, Lotus has been performing engineering analysis and concept development for the upgrade of key flood control and water quality infrastructure, including culverts, slope stability measures, and energy dissipation structures.  The work is performed to maintain and improve existing infrastructure, while enhancing water quality and habitat within these unique and special wild places.
